There are so many high-quality aesthetic treatments available these days, that sometimes it’s difficult to decide which one (or ones) you’re most interested in! When in doubt, it’s always a good idea to ask the experts. That’s why we spoke with our own licensed master aesthetician, Dawn Adkins! Read on to learn about her favorite treatments to perform here at Chesapeake Vein Center and MedSpa, and what you can expect.
What is your favorite treatment to perform?
I really can’t choose any particular favorite type of procedure! I love them all! But, it may work to say that I really love doing the combination of treatments, especially Halo™ and Coolmini! I have done quite a few, and have had great results and happy patients! Halo is the combination of ablative and non-ablative laser treatments. I always tell patients at consultations that the beauty of the Halo treatment is that I can select the settings based on whatever their one major skin issue is. The ablative laser can be compared to a dermal puncture, by the light traveling down into the dermis and damaging just enough cells to stimulate the response of the body to quickly make new skin cells to repair the area. The non-ablative laser is delivered at the same time, and causes enough damage to the epidermis to cause the cells to harden and protect the lower layers as a barrier for about five days. Eventually all of the skin naturally sloughs off and underneath is the new skin that had formed below!
Then on the chin and neck, two Coolmini treatments can be done which help get rid of the jowls that have started drooping. When combined with Halo, it can return the face and neck to that young, well rested look with very little downtime!
Is there anything patients should do – or avoid – before or after their Halo or Coolmini treatment to ensure best results or best recovery?
Before Halo treatments, patients should come in for a consultation so we can discuss some of the most important and necessary questions before we even begin. We will make note of all the products that patients have been using, if any have active ingredients, any topical prescription medications, or even some that are taken orally may need to be stopped at least four weeks before treatment.
I go over all of the post-op information and give each patient some of the necessities to use for the five days following their treatment.
The Coolmini is so easy, it is only a minimal type of suction, lasts only 45 minutes, and most patients experience little to no side effects during or after treatment!
Do you have any advice for new patients who have never had a treatment?
If you have never had any type of laser treatment before, just know that everyone experiences a different sensation to each of these treatments. For Halo, we use a topical anesthetic to help make the treatment more comfortable. In these last five years of doing this procedure, I have learned that most of us become a little nervous, or even unknowingly anxious before treatment. This seems to cause the body to be more sensitive to the treatment. The nerves in the body have become excited and closer to the top levels of the skin, especially in the treatment area. This happens for almost any experience we are unsure of!
As far as a new patient for Coolmini, I think any patient should know that it’s extremely important to stay completely still for the entire 45-minute procedure.
